Eden Hazard blasted for 'taking the p**s out of Real Madrid' as Spanish TV goes berserk

Eden Hazard has been hammered by the Spanish press following Real Madrid’s defeat by Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final last night. Hazard started against his former club at Stamford Bridge but failed to make any impact as Los Blancos slipped to a 2-0 defeat to exit 3-1 on aggregate.

Zinedine Zidane’s side were totally outplayed by Chelsea, who could even afford to spurn several chances on their way to booking a place in the final against Manchester City later this month.

Timo Werner gave the Blues the lead with a close-range header after Kai Havertz struck the bar with a chipped attempt.

Eduoard Mendy made two important saves from Karim Benzema before half-time but Chelsea pushed for a second after the break.

Werner, N’Golo Kante and Havertz all missed good chances, with Thibaut Courtois keeping Real in the game as it opened up.

But Chelsea finally made the game safe when Christian Pulisic kept his cool to pick out Mason Mount to make it 2-0 in the 85th minute.

El Chiringuito also ran a poll on their Twitter account, asking Real fans to decide whether the club should sell Hazard straight away.

They were not the only title to take aim at the 30-year-old, who joined Real from Chelsea in June 2019 for a fee which could exceed £150million over his five-year contract.

Madrid-based newspaper Marca said Hazard ‘didn’t deserve’ to start the game, stating he is ‘still light years away from the player he was at Stamford Bridge’.

Marca also asked fans to rank the performances of Real’s players. No prizes for guessing who was at the bottom: at the time of writing Hazard had over 1,400 down-votes to 173 positive reviews, below captain Ramos.

Zidane defended his selection of Hazard in his post-match press conference.

“Eden has to play,” he said. “He has to regain his confidence, little by little, by playing.

“We played a semi-final and the players were prepared. If they played, it means that they were prepared.

“We can be proud of my players, we have tried and we have come this far, one step away from the final. Chelsea played a great game and qualified and they are to be congratulated.

“We can say that they deserved the victory. We tried, but in the end they deserved to win and go through.”
