Eddie Murphy has not been on the radar much for the past decade.

But it looks as if the Saturday Night Live vet – who is best known for Coming To American and Beverly Hills Cop – might have a big comeback because as soon as the official trailer for his new film Dolemite Is My Name dropped on Monday, it got a very positive response.

In the clip, Murphy is seen as a middle-aged hustler from the streets who has never been good at anything. That is until he seeks fame in Hollywood.

The trailer opens with Murphy’s character looking washing up and out of luck before he tells friends that he wants to make it as a comedian.

Instead of writing standard jokes, he creates the character Dolemite and gets dressed up in suits and fedoras.

But then he sets his sites higher, wanting to make movies.

Dolemite will not take no for an answer as he interrupts a star during a date at a restaurant.

The newbie offers him an acting role and when the star looks down at the eager filmmaker, Dolemite is smart enough to dangle a directing job in front of the man.

The deal appears to be done.

Unbelievable, the hustler is seen on a movie set.

His film is no love story but rather is about a pimp who does Kung Fu and runs around with scantily clad women at nightclubs. The genre was Blaxploitation, a term coined in the early 1970s to refer to black action films that were aimed at black audiences.

The actors on set can’t believe what they’re making as the scenes seem ridiculous, but Moore is thrilled as his enthusiasm pushes the movie forward.

Dolemite Is My Name is directed by Craig Brewer from a screenplay by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski.

The movie also stars Wesley Snipes as D’Urville Martin, Tituss Burgess as Theodore Toney and Keegan-Michael Key as Jerry Jones.

There are also appearances by Snoop Dogg, TI and Chris Rock.
