Ed Woodward is aiming for Manchester United to have completed two major transfers by the start of July, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is in need of major investment this summer, while several players are expected to depart Old Trafford.

United have not yet made a signing but Swansea City winger Daniel James did undergo a medical on Thursday and is expected to complete an £18 million move imminently.

United have also been in talks over a deal for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and have reportedly offered to make him the highest paid teenager with a £350,000-a-week contract.

And according to The Sun, signing a new defender is high on United’s priority list while the club want to have two key signings in place by the time Solskjaer and his squad report back for pre-season at the start of July.

Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly are also on United’s summer shortlist.

‘Some of the staff at Carrington have been told to expect at least two new faces visiting before training on July 1,’ a source at United told The Sun.

‘We are pretty confident a couple are close to getting over the line. Talks are going well and have been before the end of last season.

‘There could be as many as four that join up with the rest of the squad in upcoming tour of Australia and Far East.’
