Ed Woodward has told Manchester United flops Nemanja Matic and Marcos Rojo they will be sold during the January transfer window, according to reports.

Both Matic and Rojo have fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, with the pair making just six Premier League appearances between them this season.

According to the Daily Star, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told the players they do not have long-term futures at the club, with Woodward ready to sanction their departures next month.

Former manager Jose Mourinho brought Matic to Manchester United two years ago and the ex-Chelsea midfielder initially impressed at the Theatre of Dreams.

But Matic, 31, is now deemed surplus to requirements, having dropped behind Scott McTominay, Fred and the returning Paul Pogba in Solskjaer’s pecking order.

At least one Premier League club is said to be interested in striking a deal for Matic, who helped Chelsea win two Premier League titles before moving to Manchester.

Argentine defender Rojo, who Manchester United signed for £16million in 2014, has not featured under Solskjaer for over a month and is likely to move abroad.

Manchester United, who are currently eighth in the Premier League, are expected to offload a couple of players next month and are hoping to bring at least two new stars to the club.

Discussing the club’s plans ahead of the January transfer window, Solskjaer said: ‘I’ll always have the final say on transfers. No one comes in the door without me saying yes.

‘It has to be that way, even though signing players is a process involving other members of staff.

‘I don’t really speak to agents, because I have nothing to do with the money side of it, but the final decision on who becomes a Manchester United player will be mine.’
