Ed Sheeran’s ‘wildlife pond’ annoys neighbours again as ‘wooden cabin could be used as changing room’

Ed Sheeran’s wildlife pond has caused quite a splash amongst his neighbours – and not in a good way.

Firstly, the pond on his vast estate near Framlingham, Sussex, was accused of actually being a swimming pool by annoyed neighbours, after Ed installed steps into the water and a jetty.

And now, a wooden caravan has added to tensions.

According to The Sun, the Shape Of You singer has been threatened with having the caravan dismantled amid claims it could be used as a changing room for the ‘swimming pool’.

The ‘gypsy-style’ caravan near the edge would need planning permission, with a local authority report reading: ‘The recent structure in the surrounding area of the pond is under investigation as this would require planning permission. The council is taking appropriate action.’

Ed, 28, received retrospective planning permission from his local council for the pond after it was built last year.
However, that was on the condition that it should only be used for wildlife, rather than swimming or leisure.

The singer, who recently tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, claimed that the pond was to attract newts, birds and frogs, with the initial planning permission application in 2016 claiming the pond would ‘support nature conservation … and provide a natural habitat for breeding and wetland invertebrates such as dragonflies and water beetles, as well as providing a source of drinking water to birds and mammals’.

The East Suffolk Council approved the installation of steps in the pond ‘to enable access to the pond in the event of maintenance and emergency’.

However, the addition of the steps and the jetty annoyed some neighbours, who believe the pond is actually being used as a swimming pool.

Neighbour Andrew Cattee wrote to the council, arguing: ‘What was initially a wildlife pond has… become a recreational swimming pond, now with the addition of steps, handrail and jetty’.

He added: ‘I am a huge supporter of the creation of ecosystems, especially when it comes to ponds and wetlands. What I would hate to see here is that this is taken one step too far and transformed into an area of development that is for no gain to the wildlife that lives there but only to add to the amusement of those that reside at the property.’

And Tony Robinson wrote: ‘I believe that the development of the site is more about creating an environment for a “wild lifestyle” rather than actual “wildlife”!’
