Ed Sheeran isn’t done with his home renovations just yet as the popstar is now reportedly building a ‘place of worship’ on his East Suffolk estate.

The Thinking Out Loud singer’s father-in-law, Matthew Seaborn, reportedly filed plans with East Suffolk council on Saturday, detailing how they would like to build a new ‘prayer retreat’ on the sprawling estate which Ed bought for a cool £3.7 million.

It’s said that Ed, 28, hopes the place of worship will offer a space for ‘contemplation, prayer and relaxation’ for people around the world.

According to the documents, the prayer retreat will be ‘multi-use and non-denominational’.

The Mail Online reports that the building will be used to host weddings, christenings and other social gatherings.

Matthew, father of Ed’s wife Cherry, is said to have submitted the documents via Donald Insall Associates, an architectural practice.

The new building will be situated not too far from the main house on the estate – dubbed Sheeranville – on the eastern boundary because ‘the rising of the sun is relevant both in the Abrahamic and oriental traditions’.

It will have a ‘sweeping boat-shaped feel’ and a ‘cone’ rather than a spire which is typically found above places of worship.

The documents reportedly state: ‘It would address an important need for a private place of retreat for contemplation and prayer, for celebration of key life and family milestones, family and social gatherings, marriages, christenings, and so forth.

‘It would also allow the applicant’s family, friends and colleagues to be able to enjoy these things and join them in their observance.’

The documents continued: ‘The proposed building would be a space truly ancillary to the main house, but apart from it in order to provide calm and separation.

‘The applicant has […] guests and visiting colleagues at [his home], people from around the world. Many of these people are from many countries, faiths and customs, including for example the USA, Ireland, Ghana, Nigeria, Asia and Australia.

‘Thus, the applicant seeks to provide a space in which, he, his family and these different people can retreat for contemplation, prayer and relaxation, to meet celebrate and meditate in peace and safety from disturbance, when they visit.’

A decision on the latest plans is expected to be made next month.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Ed spent £4 million buying out his neighbours’ properties to avoid their complaints about the building works.
