Ed Sheeran emerges at The Ashes 2019 for fourth test after shock ‘retirement’ announcement

Ed Sheeran seemingly took his mind off his big news at The Ashes 2019, as England took on Australia in the fourth test.

The hitmaker looked to be enjoying his newfound time off after wrapping up his Divide tour earlier this week.

The 28-year-old was seen chatting to two male companions in their seats at Manchester’s Old Trafford.

It comes just days after he said confirmed his last gig for “probably 18 months” while chatting to the crowd at Chantry Park in Ipswich.

Ed kept his white and black baseball cap firmly on, which he wore with brown tinted sunglasses.

He cut a casual figure, opting for a beige, long-sleeved jumper, with a simple T-shirt underneath.

The singer added dark jeans and black trainers, before taking his front row balcony spot.

The musician is no doubt winding down after completing his mammoth tour, which has seen him travel all around the road.

However, he said it will be a while before he returns to the stage again as he was taking more than a year off.

Speaking at his final concert, according to the Mirror, Ed stated: “As you may or not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing.

“There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months.”

The songwriter continued: “We’ve played all around the world. Glastonbury, Wembley Stadium. All these amazing venues, America, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America – it’s been a wild one.

“I was told before I came on that now at the end of this tour I’ve played to nine million people around the world. It is the biggest tour ever.”

Saying it had been an “emotional day for a lot of people backstage”, he added: “It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you’ve been with for years.

“It sounds odd but it has been a long tour… See you in a few years’ time. Thank you.”

It comes after he married his long-term girlfriend Cherry in December and spoke of having kids back in June.

He told the publication: “I’m starting a life with Cherry. I can’t spend the next 20 years on the road.

“… If someone told me you can’t tour again for the next ten years if you have kids that is fine, because that is what I have signed up for.”

James Bond, No Time To Die theme could be written and sung by Ed Sheeran after his manager teased meeting with producers and the singer’s keenness.

The film is currently shooting with Daniel Craig, but fans have been wondering just who will bag the coveted theme song over the opening credits.
