Ed Miliband exposed: Fury as leaflet targets Leave-voting Doncaster constituents

In the Labour leaflet circulating around his Doncaster North seat, Mr Miliband said “we need to sort Brexit” and claimed he voted nine times for Britain to exit the European union. However, the former Labour leader voted against Theresa May’s withdrawal agreement. In October Mr Miliband also voted against the second reading of Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal as well as the Prime Minister’s proposed three-day timetable pass the legislation.

The Labour leader between 2010-2015 has voted for a series of Brexit deals which involve making amendments including Labour’s proposals for a customs union and single market.

In the Labour leaflet Mr Miliband said: “I think this election is the most vital for decades because the future of our NHS and schools and the livelihoods of working people are at stake.

“We need to sort Brexit. I’ve voted nine times in parliament for a deal to do that.

“But in this election, I believe what matters even more is whether we have an NHS we can rely on, people can earn enough to bring up their family ad our young people have a future.

“We can’t afford another five years of the Tories.

“Please mark X for me so we can rebuild our country.”

Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay has slammed the leaflet and accused Mr Miliband of lying to Leave voters in Doncaster.

In the 2016 EU referendum more than 70 percent of constituents voted to leave the bloc.

Mr Barclay told the Huffington Post: “It’s clear what Labour’s new strategy is in Leave-voting constituencies: lie.

“People like Ed Miliband are destroying trust in democracy by saying they accept the result of democratic votes then working to overturn them.

“Corbyn’s Labour are taking voters for fools and now they are trying to pull the same confidence trick on the British people again.

A spokesman said: “Over the last three and a half years Ed has voted 9 times for a customs union, single market and other Labour proposals for a Brexit deal.

“Desperate Tory attempts to throw mud and distract from their plans to sell off the NHS to Donald Trump will fool nobody

“As Ed’s leaflet says Labour will negotiate a Brexit deal that protects the NHS and put it back to the people.”
