easyJet has warned passengers they will not be able to take a particularly key piece of electronic equipment as hand luggage, in a new stipulation which could catch many passengers out. The budget airline announced the huge changes on its website this week. It could see travellers forced to hand over their Apple Macbook pro devices in something which could also prove pretty costly, too. They updated their website with the electronic alert and encouraged travellers to be aware.
It stated: “In light of the recent EASA guidance customers are advised that they are not allowed to switch on or charge older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units supplied by Apple Inc, between September 2015 and February 2017 during their flight.”
The EASA guidelines added: “Only selected product serial numbers are affected.
“Apple has offered to replace the batteries for eligible devices free of charge.”
Yet for those arriving to the airport with their Macbook this may prove problematic.
The advice added: “If such a device is taken on board, the passenger is required to keep it switched off and not use or charge the device.
“Passengers should also be reminded to inform cabin crew immediately when a device is damaged, hot, produces smoke, is lost or falls into the seat structure.”
A spokesperson for easyJet added to Express.co.uk: “In light of the recent EASA guidance concerning MacBook Pros, customers are not allowed to switch on or charge older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units supplied by Apple Inc between September 2015 and February 2017 in flight.
“This guidance is highlighted on our website and the cabin crew will make PAs onboard to advise customers.”
Meanwhile, Express.co.uk recently clarified easyJet’s hand luggage limitations, amid some passenger confusion.
The airline, known for its no-frills cheap fares, warmed of “limited space” in the airline cabin.
Those who are travelling solely with hand baggage on easyJet, recently voted second best budget airline, are permitted one cabin bag each.
The easyJet website stipulated this in capital letters – meaning it is essential, and travellers should take note.
The advice states: “You can take ONE cabin bag per person on board.
“That’s just enough space for a couple of nights away.
“There’s no weight limit but we do ask that you are able to lift it into the overhead locker.”
They warn of the limited space on a standard easyJet aircraft, and continue: “Cabin space is limited and there’s only room for up to 70 cabin bags so the overhead lockers fill up quickly.
“All remaining cabin bags will be put into the hold and can be collected from the baggage carousel on arrival in the terminal.”
Those hoping to sneak through security with a couple of extra bags won’t go unnoticed, though.
EasyJet added: “We check bag sizes before you board.
“If they’re bigger than the maximum 56x45x25cm (including handles and wheels), they can’t go in the cabin and we’ll have to check them into the aircraft hold for a charge.”
