EastEnders spoilers: Furious Callum punches Ben in the face as explosive wedding week kicks off

CALLUM Highway’s double life is going to get to him tonight when he attacks lover Ben Mitchell during his stag do in EastEnders.

The closeted funeral undertaker – who is played by actor Tony Clay in the BBC soap – will have a furious fight with Ben in the Arches tonight as they come face to face ahead of Callum’s wedding to Whitney Dean.

With his wedding day looming, Callum struggles with the burden of his secret after sleeping with Ben.

The explosive wedding week will see Whitney learn Callum’s secret amid her adopted mother Bianca Jackson returning with her own secrets.

EastEnders boss Kate Oates revealed to The Sun Online earlier this week how she decided to change Callum’s sexual orientation after not believing in his and Whitney’s relationship.

She said: “Callum struggling with his sexuality wasn’t on the cards when I arrived.

“In fact, on the cards was Halfway and Whitney trying for a baby and that being the struggle.

“I just didn’t believe it as much as I might have done, because the dynamic of the relationship felt really strange. That was nothing to do with the actors, who were fantastic and giving these amazing performances.

“But the relationship still felt so new. They felt so young, and I didn’t really know why they would want to drive their lives in that direction.

“Callum also just felt like such a blank canvas. There were lots of unanswered questions, which is what Tony Clay and I talked about when we first had a conversation.

EastEnders’ Ben Mitchell kisses Callum Highway on the cheek and squeezes his hand in a show of support as he struggles with his sexuality

“I think Whitney was his first, he’d been in the Army but I didn’t understand why he’d left. He’s always felt like a bit of a square peg and it just felt like he was somebody who didn’t really know fully who he was. Callum was always running away from who he was.

“The relationship with his brother I always found really fascinating, because Stuart was such an enormous presence and so unpredictable and had obviously come from a really dark background himself. So Tony and I had a good chat.”

* EastEnders airs tonight at 7.30pm
