EastEnders fans joked that Louise Mitchell had a ‘magic womb’ after her baby was born without its umbilical cord in Friday’s episode.

Drama came to Albert Square as Louise, the daughter of hard man Phil Mitchell, went into labour early, prompting a rush for her and her Keanu Taylor to get to hospital.

But after a successful birth, the screaming newborn, named Peggy, appeared on screen with a ‘healed’ belly button and without its umbilical cord.

Fans on Twitter were quick to pick up on the blooper with one saying: ‘Funny. Hows baby Peggy was born with a healed belly button, no surplus umbilical chord! #EastEnders.’

Another said: ‘Why the hell did Louise’s baby not have an umbilical cord. Some magic womb or what.’

And a third added: ‘#Eastenders baby born with perfect belly button!!’

Before the birth, Phil had been desperately trying to get hold of his wife Sharon so she could support Louise, who is played by Tilly Kooper.

But Sharon was revealing her own shocking baby news to Lisa Fowler, whom she told that Phil was not the father of her child.

The real father is Louise’s boyfriend Keanu, who now faces the prospect of that deception coming to light while trying to raise his and Louise’s child.

The baby was named Peggy by the show’s bosses to pay tribute to Dame Barbara Windsor, who played the pub landlord for more than two decades before bowing out in 2016 after the actresses’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

The actress has played Louise for the past four years, but will star in her final scenes for the show in the new year.

In her first sighting since the news, the BBC star kept things casual as she headed out in London on Tuesday.

Tilly kept the cold at bay by wrapping up in an olive green coat with a fur trim and a thick black scarf.
