Hunter kept fans guessing whether he would make it through to the end of the episode in EastEnders.

It came after he made a gripping return to Albert Square after he escaped from jail after murdering his step-dad.

He fled to find his mum Mel Owen and hid out in the nightclub –  where the huge gash to his leg was uncovered.

But back at the flat, Mel realised how serious it was.

As Hunter swore to never return to prison because he couldn’t cope with the gang life, fans wondered if he was slipping away as he lay in Mel’s arms.

One wrote: “You think he’s dead?”

Another said: “Hunter is gonna die and I don’t think I’m emotionally ready.”

A third chirped in: “So is Hunter gonna end up dying of sepsis in Mel’s arms?”

EastEnders revealed the first pictures of Hunter’s return earlier today.

Mel looked terrified to see a rugged looking Hunter in front of her.

He was locked up after shooting stepdad Ray Kelly as he tried to murder his mum.

Mel then helped her son cover up the crime but in true soap style he was caught in the end – with him taking the full blame so that she would remain free.

But it was revealed Hunter managed to somehow flee the van,and left his mum terrified when he turned up unexpectedly.

It’s previously been revealed that both Mel and Hunter are set to leave the soap in dramatic scenes airing later this summer.

Teenage killer Hunter – who’s played by Charlie Winter – will be killed off following his escape.

It was also announced in July that Tamzin Outhwaite, who plays Mel, is leaving Walford for good.
