Eamonn Holmes: This Morning star, 59, reveals real reason he doesn’t drink alcohol

The This Morning star appeared on friend Kate Thornton’s latest podcast titled White Wine Question Time, where he spilled on the reason why he tends not to drink alcohol.

Despite his admission, Eamonn Holmes, 59, did enjoy a little drink with Kate for the purpose of the interview.

“I’m even making you drink today and you never drink,” Kate said to him at the beginning of the podcast.

Eamonn, who tied the knot to Ruth Langsford in 2010, replied: ”I don’t drink, but for you, I am going to make an exception.”

The former Sky News presenter explained the reason behind his lifestyle choice after Kate admitted she’s “curious”.

Eamonn revealed: ”I ask myself why I don’t drink, as people think it’s odd, but people never know that I don’t drink.

“The amount of people who tell my wife, ‘Oh I went on a pub crawl with your husband, we got lashed, we were this, we were that,’ and Ruth knows it never happened.”

The father-of-four said he’s never been drunk or “out of control” before.

“I can honestly say I’ve never been drunk in my life, I’ve been tiddly a couple of times, but never been drunk or out of control,” he spilled.

“And you say why? Well, one day I was on Radio 2 and I was interviewing a psychiatrist, and he said to me: ‘Do you drink?’ and I said: ‘No, I don’t’, and he said that’s because you don’t like to be out of control’.

“I said: ‘No, it’s because I have a fear of vomiting.”

“Real fear?” Kate quizzed, to which Eamonn replied: “Yeah I would have a sore tummy for years. I don’t care what end it comes out, as long as it doesn’t come out of my mouth!”

Eamonn added: “He said that it was a control thing as well.”

Also in the podcast, Eamonn said his wife of 10 years, Ruth, is “difficult to live with” as he opened up on his marriage.

He divulged: “She calls me her poet, I wouldn’t hold back on how much I would tell her I love her.

“She’s a very difficult person to live with because she’s illogical with a lot of things.”

Eamonn and Ruth have taken over from presenting This Morning Monday to Thursday, stepping in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield who are on their summer break from the show.

On the show yesterday, Eamonn called out guest, Christopher Biggins, for walking around the set, interrupting a segment with resident psychologist, Emma Kenny.

“Look at Biggins hogging there,” he pointed out. “Tell him to clear off,” he told a giggly Emma.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10.30am.
