Eamonn Holmes: This Morning presenter criticises wife Ruth Langsford as 'useless'

Eamonn Holmes appeared on the The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan last night, alognside Dermot O’Leary and Caroline Flack.

Chat soon turned to Eamonn’s wife, Ruth Langsford, and her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing two years ago.

After acknowledging Caroline’s win on the show with professional partner, Pasha Kovalev, comedian Mo asked Eamonn if he watches it.

The This Morning presenter replied: “My darling wife watches it. They have this thing where when they’ve taken part in it, they get addicted to it and they all become friends. They set up a Whats App group and whatever.”

Reiterating his feelings for the BBC One competition, Eamonn added: “I’d rather have my teeth pulled out. Not for me.”

Mo quizzed: “What was it like when Ruth done Strictly?”

“Interminable,” Eamonn replied with grunted teeth. “Because the thing is of course, she was useless, she couldn’t dance.”

The crowd and guests were shocked at Eamonn’s response about his wife of nine years.

An aghast Mo said: “You can’t say that about the about lovely Ruth! We love you Ruth!”

“That still doesn’t hide the fact she couldn’t dance,” Eamonn replied.

He went on: “The fact was, she stayed in for eight weeks. I had to turn up every week, you had to sit in the most uncomfortable chairs ever.”

The former Sky News presenter added: “You think ‘oh dear God’.”

Eamon admitted he “didn’t mind” watching Ruth show off her dance moves with professional partner Anton du Beke, but wasn’t keen on watching everyone else.

“It was just not my thing,” he said.

Mo also asked Eamonn if he worried about the so-called Strictly “curse” beforehand, to which the newsreader replied: “One man’s curse can be another man’s blessing.”

Meanwhile, Earlier in the week on This Morning, Eamonn and Ruth got stuck into a debate about whether it was acceptable to direct message people when in a relationship.

“I know you direct message people but, to me it’s just like texting,” Ruth said.

“If you say, ‘Oh, I saw so-and-so did a new show or something. I must send them a message,’ if you didn’t have their mobile number, you would probably direct message them. So I don’t have a problem with that.”

Eamonn proceeded to say he would innocently message people on Twitter but wouldn’t inform his wife.

“And I wouldn’t tell you if I’m doing that because you would be suspicious if I did tell you,” he said, turning to Ruth.
