Eamonn Holmes on wife Ruth Langsford: ‘I love her far more than she loves me’

Eamonn Holmes and second wife Ruth Langsford wed back in June 2010, eight years after they welcomed their son Jack, now 17. The journalist and broadcaster was previously married to Gabrielle Holmes, with whom he shares two sons and a daughter. The 59-year-old has now spoken of his spouse and her “stiff upper lip”, in a candid chat about their relationship. He revealed all while chatting to Kate Thornton in the latest episode of Yahoo’s White Wine Question Time.

As he discussed how he proposed to Ruth at Cheltenham Races, Eamonn said he is the emotional one.

The father-of-four said: “The thing about me, is that I would say that I love Ruth far more than she loves me, but she would say, ‘How do you know how a person feels?’

“She’s more English, she’s not like me, I am from a very emotional, very sentimental family, she’s more stiff upper lip, she comes from an army family.”

Eamonn continued: “But I totally believe that she loves me and adores me, but I would still think that I love her and adore her more.”

Meanwhile, the small screen favourite went on to discuss how he popped the question to Ruth while they were in a box at the horse-racing.

He said it just dawned on him and he questioned why she wasn’t his wife, while they were surrounded by 11 other men.

Eamonn recalled: “I just suddenly thought, why have I not got that tied up? This suddenly really annoys me.

“I went outside, and started six pages of text to her, telling her how much I love and adore her.”

However, it took Ruth a little while to actually read what he’d sent and it didn’t come until they were driving home.

He added: “She finally read it and looks at this phone, and I can see this tear coming down her eye, and she texted me back saying, ‘Yes’.”

Meanwhile, it comes just days after Eamonn Holmes caused a stir after “sneakily” taking an “unhappy” snap of her.

The latter appeared to look unimpressed as she used the petrol pump and wore a slightly glum expression on her face.

She was pictured wearing a simple white T-shirt paired with jeans, as she accessorised with oversized sunglasses and a silver necklace.

After spotting his Ruth in his car mirror, Eamonn couldn’t resist taking the photo of the presenter without her knowledge.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
