EA confirms Battlefield 6 will release in 2021/2022 window – Video Games Chronicle

EA has announced a launch window for its next Battlefield game.

The new game will be released between April 2021 and March 2022, the publisher confirmed during its Q2 FY20 earnings call on Tuesday.

CFO Blake Jorgensen said EA’s intention to release Battlefield 6 in that window was to take advantage of the bigger installed base of next gen consoles, rather than launching early in the lifecycle and not doing the game justice.

Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett are set to launch in late 2020.

The franchise’s most recent instalment, Battlefield V, was released in November 2018, developed by series creator DICE.

Battlefield V is the second consecutive series entry to focus on the World Wars of the early 20th century. Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 both focused on modern day military combat.

Battlefield V was released in 2018

Any future Battlefield title is now likely to release on Steam, after EA announced a return to the platform starting with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on November 15, 2019.

In the same earnings call, Electronic Arts said it will be “doubling down” on live service games like Apex Legend and FIFA, after digital games drove growth during its second fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2019.

“We’re investing in games that people play for longer and engage with much more deeply,” said EA COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen.

“This focus will continue to drive growth and profitability for the company through the remainder of this year and beyond.”

Jorgensen also said the company could return to the Titanfall franchise down the line, but he couldn’t confirm “if and when” that might be.

And EA doesn’t expect to release the next Dragon Age game before its fiscal year 2023, which begins on April 1, 2022.
