DWTS winner Nyle DiMarco 'really sick' with suspected coronavirus

DWTS winner Nyle DiMarco ‘really sick’ with suspected coronavirus… but he isn’t taking a test amid shortage

Nyle DiMarco believes he has contracted the COVID-19 virus.

‘It is very possible I contracted coronavirus and I have access to get tested but I do not want to,’ signed the 30-year-old deaf activist in a video shared to his 1.8million followers on Instagram on Saturday.

‘The reason is because there is a shortage of covid-19 test kits in the U.S. and the sick patients need it more than I do,’ explained DeMarco who revealed that he is ‘now on the mend’ after being ‘really sick.’

In the nearly two-minute clip, former Dancing With The Stars winner DiMarco broke down the symptoms he experienced and explained how he was able to remain calm during the terrifying ordeal.

‘For 48 hours starting Sunday night, I had a fever, body chills, a sore throat and a mild cough. All these are symptomatic of COVID-19.’

He continued: ‘Some with COVID-19 have reported not being able to taste or smell. That was my experience too.’

Nyle took comfort in knowing that he ‘wasn’t a high risk,’ due to his lack of respiratory issues, but made sure to ‘keep an eye’ on his condition.

‘So I stayed calm. I communicated with my doctor and self-quarantined. I kept an eye out for any respiratory issues because if it worsened, it could be deadly. But I recovered…. And I still am self-isolating.’

Though Nyle is refraining from getting tested, he made sure not to undermine the importance of testing, while still reminding ‘healthy’ civilians to be ‘mindful’ of the low test kit supply in the United States.

‘I’d like to stress that testing is important. Widespread testing has been a key part for some countries like South Korea’s efforts in handling Covid-19. In a perfect world, I’d take the test.’

‘Unfortunately the U.S. lacks enough test kits. If you are healthy and have no respiratory issues, I encourage you to be mindful of sick patients that need to get tested more than you do.’

He concluded the video by reminding his viewers of the importance of self isolation, as well as the importance of togetherness in world wide upheaval.

‘And stay at home to avoid spreading and help flatten the curve. We’re in this together. Let’s look out for each other!!’

Nyle DiMarco first rose to fame in 2014, when he stole the hearts of millions as Garrett Banducci in Freeform channel’s teen drama Switched At Birth, starring fellow deaf actor Marlee Matlin.

In 2015, he was crowned America’s Next Top Model during cycle 22 of the popular model search reality series.

Nyle’s win made him the second male contestant and the first deaf contestant in the show’s history to take home the gold.

Shortly after, the hunk joined the season 22 cast of the ABC celebrity competition show Dancing With The Stars, where he would walk away with the highly sought after mirrorball trophy with his dance partner Peta Murgatroyd.

DiMarco has since been signed to Wilhemina modeling agency and has walked the runway for the likes of Giorgio Armani. Nyle – born Nyle Thompson – has a fraternal twin brother Neal who is also deaf.
