Dwayne Johnson has revealed that his mother cried on the set of Hobbs & Shaw – and we cannot cope.

The actor revealed that his mother, Ata Johnson, became very emotional when he spoke in Samoan, the language of their ancestors, as he was busy filming the latest movie in the Fast & Furious franchise.

Speaking to Extra TV, the wrestling ace mentioned that this is the first time that the Samoan culture has ever been shown on a widespread scale in Hollywood, and that his mother had ‘never heard him speak in Samoan to this degree.’

‘Within the scene, she never heard me speak in Samoan to this degree. She hears me speaking in Samoan, calling on our ancestors to give us strength… I look over and she is crying so hard,’ he revealed.

‘When the scene was over, a really beautiful moment — all the boys, the guys that play my brothers in the movie, go over and gave her a hug.’

He also mentioned that his mother was ‘very proud of the movie.’

The 47-year-old also returned to Hawaii, a state he grew up in as a teenager, to join local residents who were protesting against the construction of a giant telescope on the summit of the dormant Mauna Kea volcano.

The Thirty Metre Telescope, nicknamed the TMT, has met opposition from local residents, who deem the area to be sacred – despite the volcano already being home to thirteen other telescopes.

Speaking from the scene of the protest, he told reporters that he was here to ‘stand with them and support them.’

‘What I realised today, and obviously I’ve been following this for years now, is that it’s bigger than a telescope. It’s humanity. It’s culture.

‘I wanted to come here and see our people and stand with them and support them.’

In the meantime, Hobbs & Shaw will be released in cinemas on 2 August.
