Dubai is the perfect destination for some winter sun for families and couples alike

THE end of the year is always an exciting time living in the UK, but as December turns into January and the Christmas decorations are put back into the loft a long, cold winter becomes a harsh reality.

In an effort to escape the dark mornings, grey days, cold and drizzle, many Brits choose to head to Winter Sun destinations at the start of the year.

If you’re looking for your next dose of Vitamin D, we think Dubai is the place to be.  With January highs of 24 degrees it’s the perfect destination to escape to.

Whether you’re travelling as a couple or with your family there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Lounge the day away in a luxurious beach club and take in the iconic view from the Burj Khalifa, or treat the kids to a once in a lifetime experience like a Desert Safari.

These are our top picks for couples and families travelling to Dubai.

For couples

No visit to Dubai is complete without a trip to celeb favourite Palm Jumeirah.

Home to lots of glitzy hotels and fancy restaurants, The Palm is one of the world’s most daring structures.

Jutting out into the Arabian Gulf, the outer arch of the palm tree shaped structure is 7 miles wide and can be seen from space.

Whether you’re staying on The Palm or not it’s worth a visit. Soak up luxury in one of the hotels or splash out on a romantic dinner in one of its world class restaurants.

Whilst we’re on the subject of impressive structures, couples will also enjoy a visit to the world’s tallest tower – Burj Khalifa. Pre book your tickets to head into the clouds and take in the impressive views.

You can also book a special sunrise package which includes breakfast.

Once you’ve had your fill of glitz and glamour it’s time to check out some culture. Why not try a traditional form of transport and hop on an Abra, a wooden boat, and head across the Dubai Creek.

An Abra is a great way to get to Deira Old Souk and the Spice Souk, and tickets are super cheap. Plus, on your journey you will see trade cargo, wooden dhows and the occasional ship crossing the creek.

It’s a great way to see the spectacle of old and new Dubai, from the traditional houses, wind towers and minarets that you pass by on an Abra.

9

Why not stay on the water until dinner time and dial up the romance with a Dinner Cruise?

Whether it’s dinner on a party boat like ‘BBQ Donut’, or on old favourite Bateaux Dubai, there are so many to choose from! You could also choose to hop on board the QE2, which is permanently docked at the port.

Of course, no trip to Dubai is complete without a once in a lifetime, high octane experience. Try zip lining as a couple at Xline Dubai, or even Kayaking on the Hatta dam.

La Mer is a great starting point when visiting Dubai. The hip new destination combines sun and sand with shopping and fun!

Chill out on the beach (where you can rent a cabana for shade), dine at one of the many restaurants and cafes and even head to Laguna Waterpark and treat the kids.

For something a little different, visit Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo at Dubai Mall to have encounters with marine life! Or see more than 65,000 tropical fish at Lost Chambers at Atlantis The Palm.

If you’re visiting Dubai it’s a real shame not to get out into the Desert. Give the kids a once in a lifetime opportunity and take them on a Desert Safari.

Arabian Adventures specialises in tours of the vast and spectacular desert in Dubai. Experience an unsurpassed view of the desert with tours catered to all itineraries – from morning trips, to overnight stays.

9

Cool down after a day in the desert with a visit to a water park. Water parks are a holiday staple for kids and big kids alike – and Dubai has some of the best out there.

Thrill seekers should head to Aquaventure and Wild Wadi for adrenaline-pumping slides and zip-wires, while families with younger kids can enjoy gentler rides at Legoland Water Park.

In fact, Trip Advisor ranked Aquaventure the second top water park in the world and Wild Wadi the eighth best in the world.

Whoever you are, there’s so much to do in Dubai!
