IF you have green fingers and fancy living on an island, there’s a job that could be perfect for you.
St Michael’s Mount off the coast of Cornwall is looking for a new gardener to tend to the plants on the island.
The job comes with a £28,500 salary, as well as a two or three bedroom house on the island that you can live in.
The job listing even claims that the lucky gardener would need to be able to abseil down the castle as part of the role.
It explains: “Gardening on a rock in the middle of the sea isn’t for the faint-hearted, nor is abseiling from the battlements of a castle.
“But the Garden Team on St Michael’s Mount take all this in their stride as well as the general terrain which would challenge the most agile mountain goat.
“Beyond the physical challenges, the Garden Team are all passionate about the island’s unique garden and continue to develop the plant collection using species that thrive in one of the UK’s most challenging environments.”
ISLAND IN THE SUN How to escape the crowds at spectacular St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall
Only 30 people currently live on the island, although 350,000 people visit the church and the gardens every year.
The island is accessible either by boat or by walking across the causeway, depending on the tide.
Keen gardeners who want to apply need to submit their applications by June 7.
Many fans of the picturesque landmark have responded by hailing the vacancy as their ‘dream job’.
Taking to Facebook, Andrew Wright said: “What an amazing job.”
And Sue Reynolds wrote: “If only I were younger! Great opportunity!”
Katie Sweeting posted: “I know nothing about plants, but I am willing to learn if I get to work here every day!”
And Rhian Osborne said: “Whoever gets this job is one lucky person.”
Another dream job on St Michael’s Mount was the position of Visitor Services Manager, which 38-year-old Richard James was lucky enough to have.
He previously told Sun Online Travel: “I don’t spend ages sitting in traffic or crammed onto public transport anymore, my commute is now an easy drive finished off with the boat over to the island from the mainland.”
If you fancy a warmer climate, there’s also a job going for a bar tender in the Caribbean.
