The park announced yesterday that due to the main lake bursting, large parts of the theme park were underwater.

It was closed on Sunday, with the announcement that it would also be shut on Monday and today.

However, it was announced today that it would remain closed until February 29 as they worked on an extensive clean up operation.

Sad families posted on Facebook following the announcement of its closure.

One person wrote: “We were taking our (Thomas mad) little boy this weekend for his 3rd birthday, so hugely disappointed.”

Another person added: “Totally understand the circumstances but can’t hide the fact we’re gutted!”

However, most people said they understood the reason, and wished them luck in clearing the park.

William Bryan, Managing Director at Drayton Manor Park, said: “Due to the extensive flooding in the park from the recent storms we have had to make the difficult decision to close for the duration of the half term break, for the clean-up operation to take place.

“The Drayton Manor team has been working tirelessly to get the site back to normal as quickly as possible, and we will re-open to the public for our Thomas & Friends weekends starting on Saturday 29 February.

“February half term is a popular time of year at the park and we understand many visitors will be disappointed to hear the news, but due to the extent of the damage we would be unable to offer the quality of experience we and our guests expect.”

“As always, the safety of our guests and staff is our utmost priority, and we are doing everything we can to ensure the site is safe and secure for visitors to enjoy from next week.

“We apologise again for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming visitors again soon.”

He added that any pre-booked tickets can be moved to another date, and are advised to call 01827 287979 to make the change.
