Dozens of top armed cops who protect Britain’s military sites are probed for dodgy behaviour

DOZENS of elite armed police who guard top-secret military sites have been probed by standards watchdogs, The Sun can reveal.

And four officers were booted off the MoD police force altogether after Line of Duty-style corruption allegations.

The Ministry of Defence force is responsible for patrolling military and nuclear installations around the country.

The sites it oversees include the chemicals lab at Porton Down, the Faslane nuclear subs base, and GCHQ in Cheltenham.

Official stats show more than 5 per cent of MoD officers have been investigated for alleged misconduct.

The force’s professional standards departments has launched 144 separate investigations over the past three years.

And 77 of the officers ended up facing formal disciplinary proceedings.

Of those, 22 were either fired or quit before they could be officially forced out.

These included four “bent coppers” who broke rules governing the “honesty and integrity” of the force.

The misconduct stats are only the latest embarrassment for the MoD police force.

Last year it emerged dozens of officers are too unfit to carry the guns they are issued with.

And 30 members of the force were previously kicked out because they slacked off while they were guarding a nuclear bombs factory in Berkshire.

The Ministry of Defence did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
