Downton Abbey 2: ‘Very funny’ movie sequel CONFIRMED by Carson star Jim Carter

Four years after the hit period drama ended, Downton Abbey the movie hit cinemas. A box office smash, the film was set in 1927, continuing the storylines of the TV show. And now Downey Abbey 2 is in the works, according to Carson star Jim Carter.

Appearing on This Morning today, the 71-year-old teased: “If you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll let you know that we’ve seen a script.

“The script for a second film is there, we’ve seen it.

“It’s very funny, it’s got all the same characters in, all the regular characters.

“I think the will is that, COVID-willing, we’ll film it next year.”

This led to the Great Depression across the US and Europe, as stocks on the New York Stock Exchange plummeted dramatically.

Perhaps Downton Abbey writer Lord Julian Fellowes could choose to put the Crawley family smack bang in the middle of the devastation, meaning that the stately home’s continuation is in trouble.

Lord Grantham has had trouble with stocks before, so we’d imagine that the Wall Street Crash is going to be a problem for him in the future.

As for character side-plots, the Downton Abbey movie showed where some of those could go.

There’s Tom Branson’s (Allen Leech) relationship with Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton), who was revealed to be Lady Bagshaw’s (Imelda Staunton) true heir.

Perhaps they’ll get married and settle down, while there have been more hints of Mr Molesley and Miss Baxter finally getting together too.

Meanwhile, Barrow now has a secret boyfriend in Richard Ellis who he’s promised to remain pen pals with.

Will he get caught again, but this time end up on trial in a world before decriminalisation?
