During the final day of The International 2019 in Shanghai, China, yesterday, Valve announced that next year’s Dota 2 event will take place in Stockholm, Sweden.

The International 2020 will be held at the Ericsson Globe, the distinctive venue that is prominently shown in Valve’s teaser image and trailer. It is billed the “world’s largest spherical building,” and the venue has an events seating capacity of 16,000+. Rock band Metallica set the record with 17,303 attendees in 2018.

The event will mark the 10-year anniversary of the de facto Dota 2 world championship, and Stockholm mayor Anna König Jerlmyr appears in the trailer to welcome the Dota 2 competitive community to the city for 2020. Dates have not yet been announced.

This will be the first edition of The International to be held in Europe since the original 2011 event in Cologne, Germany. Valve then held six straight events in Seattle, Washington, before moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, last year.

The International 2019 prize pool was the largest to date, ultimately reaching $34.3M primarily via crowdfunding from in-game Dota 2 Battle Pass sales. It was the largest single-event prize pool to date, and winning team OG—repeat champions after winning 2018’s event—took home $15.6M for the victory.
