Dortmund chief Michael Zorc insists the club are ‘totally relaxed’ about Jadon Sancho’s future at the club and insist it will take a large offer from Manchester United to prise the winger away.
United have been leading the race to sign Sancho for the last six months but the coronavirus crisis has had a grave effect on club finances and United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward warned last week that talk of huge transfers this summer was unrealistic.
‘We have always believed that our commercial model gives us greater resilience than most clubs and we are grateful for the enduring support of our commercial partners in helping us achieve that,’ said Woodward.
‘However, nobody should be under any illusions about the scale of challenge facing everyone in football and it may not be ‘business as usual’ for any clubs, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer.’
United remain interested in Sancho but Dortmund are refusing to lower their price tag and sporting director Zorc says nothing has changed in regards to the winger’s future.
‘There is no new status,’ Zorc told Sport1.
‘At the moment, all clubs are running on sight – even in England! I can’t and don’t want to go too far out of the window with forecasts because the situation is changing daily.
‘We will see what happens. We have a long-term contract with Jadon Sancho. This will not change now. We are totally relaxed about it.”
‘The most important issues that are currently occupying us are rather: What is the way forward? When do we play again? It would be of paramount importance for all of us to be able to finish the season.’
As well as Sancho, United are interedsted in Jack Grealish and Odion Ighalo.
The Nigerian’s move should be relatively straightforward given Shanghai Shenhua are seeking around £15m for his signature.
However, Villa could seek around £80m for Grealish should they manage to survive in the Premier League.
