If you’re looking to bolster your box set bingeing, or maybe get an older ‘dumb’ flatscreen online, then jumping on this Fire TV deal could be a really smart move.

Amazon is currently offering its Fire TV with Alexa Voice Control Remote, for just £19.99 (down from £39.99) – that’s not a lot of cash for a whole lot of streaming TV.

Amazon sells several different versions of its Fire TV stick, the range topping out with the all-new, all-singing and dancing Fire TV 4K Max edition (also currently down from £54.99 to only £36.99).

This particular Fire TV stick isn’t quite so fancy, for example its resolution is HD not UHD, but will work with any screen that has an HDMI input.

You’re using an older TV that’s still going strong, but lacks network connectivity, consider it a simple and cheap way to get it connected. The HDMI stick plugs into a spare HDMI input on the back of the telly, and connects to your home Wi-Fi. You’ll be up and running in a couple of minutes.

Like the rest of Amazon’s Fire TV range, this streaming gizmo offers a class-leading collection of streaming apps, that cover TV, music and casual games. Headline attractions like Prime Video, Netflix and Disney+ sit alongside all the key free catch-up services (BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub. My5, All4 and UKTV Play).

Actually, this is just the tip of a streaming TV app-berg. There’s loads more to keep you amused. You can also use the Fire TV it to watch live TV sports that are exclusive to Prime.

The other cool aspect of this package is the Alexa voice remote (third generation), which has a microphone built-in. This allows you to use voice commands to find content, or engage Alexa in everyday conversation about the weather, jokes, news and so on.

Top tip: If you have an Alexa smart speaker elsewhere in the house on the same network, you can also send voice announcements straight to the set (“Kids, come and get your dinner!”).

The Fire TV remote has direct buttons for Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Music. It will also control TV power and volume, which is handy.

In addition to HD picture quality, the stick also offers Dolby Atmos cinematic audio. Dolby Atmos is used extensively on Netflix and Disney+ shows (like Locke & Key, Marvel’s What If..?) and occasionally on Prime Video programmes (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan).

The Amazon Fire TV with Alexa Voice Control currently boasts a 4.7 out of 5 rating from Amazon buyers, who praise it for its ease of use and value for money.
