Donny van de Beek has revealed that he’s open to new challenges away from Ajax in the future amid speculation he’s keen on joining Manchester United.

The 22-year-old had an outstanding campaign for Ajax, helping the side to their first domestic double in 17 years, and is one of a number of players being linked with big-money moves away from the club this summer.

Frenkie de Jong has already completed a €75million (£67m) switch to the Nou Camp and Barcelona are also battling it out with with United and Juventus for Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt.

While there are rumours that Van de Beek has his eye on a move to either United or Tottenham, the Netherlands international insists he’s ‘happy’ at Ajax.

However, he’s hinted that he could be ready to leave the Dutch outfit if the right opportunity arises in the coming months.

‘My situation is I have a contract with Ajax and I am really happy,’ he said following the Netherlands’ 1-0 defeat to Portugal in the Nations League final.

‘You never know what is going to happen in the future but I can say nothing about that.’

Asked what the future holds for team-mate De Ligt, Van de Beek replied: ‘I don’t know.

‘A lot of clubs want to buy him, I think so because he is a good player and now he has to choose for himself.

‘He has to go where he feels good. I have known him for a long time and he has a big personality.

‘He is a really good guy, a really good player and he is a good professional who always trains extra hard. He is a really good guy.’

De Ligt revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo approached him about a move to Juventus after the Nations League final.

Asked whether Ronaldo had urged him to join Juve, De Ligt told Dutch publication NOS: ‘That could well be true.

‘What I answered? I didn’t understand him at first. So I said… no, I didn’t say anything.’

When pressed, De Ligt admitted that Ronaldo had told him to join Juventus, stating: ‘I was a bit shocked, that’s why I laughed.

‘But I didn’t say anything.

‘Just after the game you just feel bad that you’ve lost, that’s all you’re thinking about.’
