Donny van de Beek is confident he will make an impact at Manchester United and has revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged him to ‘be patient’ at Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international was signed in a £40 million deal from Ajax this summer but is still yet to start a game in the Premier League.

The decision to sign Van de Beek has also been criticised by former United left-back Patrice Evra, who claims the club do not need the midfielder in their squad.

Van de Beek, meanwhile, has also been questioned over his decision to join United, with Dutch legend Marco van Basten claiming that the midfielder should not have moved to Old Trafford.

But the midfielder believes he has already made an impact during his time at United and feels he will get more chances as the season progresses.

‘It sounds like a cliche for me to say this, because of course I would have liked to play more, but I really enjoy being in a nice team,’ Van de Beek told NOS after scoring the equaliser in Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Spain on Wednesday evening.

‘I have been received very well and helped by everyone.

‘I’m a patient person but of course you go there to play as much as possible.

‘I also think in the minutes that I have played, in the times that I have come in, I have shown that I can add something to the team.’

Asked what Solskjaer has said to him about his start at United, Van de Beek said: ‘That I have to be patient but also that I just have to continue with what I have been doing.

‘And that he’s seen that I have a good impact when I come on to the pitch.

‘My time is definitely coming. And when those opportunities come, I have to be there.’
