Ajax star Donny van de Beek thinks a move to Chelsea would be a good one for Hakim Ziyech and believes his teammate will prove to be a great signing for the Blues.
The move looks all but completed, with the two team agreeing on a fee of £38m, and their manager Erik ten Hag confirmed on Wednesday that the rumours were true by saying: “Ziyech to Chelsea? A transfer was coming, we expected it to happen.”
Van de Beek and Ziyech have formed a good partnership in midfield for Ajax in the last few years, and they both starred in the Dutch club’s run for the Champions League semi-final last season, with Ajax beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus on the way.
Speaking to Voetbal Primeur , van de Beek had only positive things to say about the Moroccan international.
“Yes, if I hear all the reports, I will assume that it is already far,” said van de Beek on Ziyech’s proposed move. “I do not know if it is completely finished.
“I wish him everything and hope he will do very well there. It is a step he deserves in my opinion. He is a fantastic football player, so I am confident that he will do well.
“I think it’s a very nice club with a lot of young players that can grow. I think Hakim will certainly be in (the right) place. Everyone, of course, had their opinion about that, but I think it’s a nice club for him.”
The move seems to have been met with approval all round, and Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham liked a post on Instagram announcing the news.
Ziyech will become Frank Lampard’s first major signing as Blues manager, and he is likely to play a big part in their 2020-2021 campaign.
