Donald Trump vows post-Brexit trade deal in surprise talks with Foreign Sec Dominic Raab


DONALD Trump heaped praise on the United Kingdom and vowed to try to do a bumper post-Brexit trade deal as he held surprise talks with the Foreign Secretary.

The US President also hailed Boris Johnson and talked about strengthening the Special Relationship as he met with Dominic Raab in the Oval Office.

And in another major boost to No10, Mr Raab will today sign a landmark deal to boost economic ties with Mexico worth £60million.

TRUMP THE BOJO FAN

Speaking after his White House meeting on Tuesday evening, Mr Raab said: “We had a preliminary chat. He called me into the Oval Office he was effusive in his warmth for the United Kingdom.
“It’s amazing to hear an American President talk about our country in such warm terms.
“He expressed high regard for Boris Johnson as a Prime Minister.
“And we talked about all the things that we want to do together in the post-Brexit vision for the UK.
“Whether it’s getting a free trade deal done – and there is obviously going to be a lot of work to make that happen, but there is huge appetite on both sides to achieve that.
“And all the range of security issues that we share in common and want to make sure we strengthen the relationship and build our capacity to tackle those issues together.”

SHOCK MEET

Mr Raab had only been scheduled to meet Vice President Mike Pence.
But in a huge vote of confidence in the Boris administration, Mr Trump called him into his office for the surprise talks.
Team Boris is touring the Americas as part of a charm offensive to drum up support for post Brexit free trade deals.
Mr Raab is in Mexico City today where he is launching Britain’s biggest ever deal with the country.

The two countries are pledging to work closely to boost investment, tackle climate change and promote health and education.
It will be backed up with £60million of British money over the next four years.
And No10 hope the agreement will pave the way for Britain to do a
trade deal with the country after Brexit.
