The move would be intensely embarrassing for Theresa May as Boris ramps up his campaign to replace her in 10 Downing Street.

Mr Trump will come to the UK for his long-delayed state visit in June.

The trip is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of D-day which will be commemorated in both Britain and France.

During his three-day visit, Mr Trump is considering hosting a dinner party at the US ambassador’s residence in North London, the Sunday Times said.

The guests could include Mr Johnson and Nigel Farage, the newspaper claimed.

A Government source said: “There are fears within government circles about any potential meeting with Boris Johnson so the timetable is being scrutinised to limit the opportunities he has to do his own thing.”

Mr Trump has previously praised Boris, saying he could be a great Prime Minister.

The President’s relationship with Mrs May has been up and down since he took power.

The pair’s first meeting in Washington was seen of a success but Mr Trump has since been an outspoken critic of the PM’s Brexit strategy.

He is also a pal of Mr Farage and has hosted the former Ukip leader at his Trump Tower home.
