Dominik Szoboszlai’s agent has confirmed that the attacking midfielder is on the verge of leaving Salzburg amid strong interest from the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Napoli and Leipzig – but insists the guarantee of regular playing time is the ‘most important thing’ for his client.

The 20-year-old Hungary international has had a barnstorming start to the season for both club and country and is regarded as one of the finest young talents in European football.

Arsenal failed in their pursuit of Lyon and France playmaker Houssem Aouar in the summer transfer window but are still keen to strengthen in the middle of the park and have identified Szoboszlai as one of their top targets.

And while Salzburg’s sister club, Leipzig, are firm favourites to land Szoboszlai, it’s understood an offer of around €25million (£22m) from Arsenal could be enough to get a deal over the line.

Asked about the recent speculation, Szoboszlai representative Esterhazy Matyas told DIGI Sport’s Sport 24: ‘We’re seeing that every time he has a good game, which fortunately is happening quite often, the rumours are getting stronger.

‘However, our strategy isn’t going to change because of one or two games.

‘We have belief in our own plans and the vision we had originally is only getting stronger because all of the comments we are reading only prove that we are on the right path.’

Matyas admitted Szoboszlai was edging closer to a big move but stressed that potential suitors must be able to offer the youngster regular minutes so that his development does not suffer.

‘Whether it’s in January or next summer, the most important thing is that he goes to a club where he will have a good chance of playing regularly and continuing the learning curve he started in Salzburg – that’s the most important thing for us,’ he added.

‘Obviously, it’s no secret that Dominik is closer now to leaving the Austrian league.’

Last week, Matyas rubbished rumours that Leipzig had wrapped up an agreement for the Salzburg star.

‘Dominik Szoboszlai has no agreement with Leipzig or any other club, except of course his current club Red Bull Salzburg,’ he told Hungarian outlet Index.
