Dominic Thiem downed Alexander Zverev 7-5 6-3 in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals to set up a season finale with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

After underwhelming on previous visits to London, Thiem has been in fabulous form during his stay at the O2, beating Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the round robin stages before taking out the defending champion to book his spot in the final.

Tsitsipas had earlier taken out Federer in straight sets, and there will now be a first-time champion at the season-ending event.

Tsitsipas is no stranger to an end-of-season title, having won the Next Gen Finals in Milan just a year ago, and it is set to be an intriguing battle of the one-handed backhands. One will win the biggest title of their career.

French Open runner-up Thiem won their only 2019 meeting in Beijing and leads their overall head-to-head 4-2.

Thiem saved a break point in the third and fifth games of the first set but survived only to pinch it in the 12th.

Zverev’s second serve has been a thorn in his side throughout 2019 and after a long delay between his first and second serves on set point, he dumped the ball into the net to give Thiem a one-set lead.

As Zverev skulked to his courtside seat, he tossed his racquet at the floor in frustration, which rebounded across the court.

In the sixth game of the second set, Thiem struck again and he made no mistake in seeing out the win.
