Dominic Cummings gives string of nonsense answers about kids' cartoon to avoid questions on HS2

Dominic Cummings, Boris Johnson’s most senior aide, gave a string of nonsense answers to avoid questions about HS2 and the cabinet reshuffle.

The top advisor told reporters children’s cartoon characters PJ Masks would do a better job than the entire cabinet put together.

In a seemingly unhinged moment outside his swanky London home, Mr Cummings was asked if he had any comment on the impending reshuffle – expected on Thursday.

He replied: “PJ Masks will do a greater job than all of them put together.”

Emerging from his home to waiting BBC reporters, he recited catchphrases from the children’s TV show.

Asked why HS2 was going ahead, despite his describing it as a “disaster”, he said: “The night time is the right time to fight crime. I can’t think of a rhyme.”

And asked if he’d lost his influence in Number 10 or changed his mind on HS2, he said: “I think we need PJ Masks on the job.”

He added: “PJ Masks, they’re your guys.”

Asked about PJ Masks at a Number 10 briefing this morning, Prime Minister’s spokesman said: “I’m not familiar with their work.”

PJ Masks is a Disney childrens’ TV show, broadcast on the Disney Jr channel in the UK.

The cartoon, based on a series of French books, features a superhero team who fight crime at night to stop it ruining people’s days.

Their catchphrases include: “PJ Masks, we’re on our way. Into the night, to save the day!”

Sources last night claimed Mr Cummings was being “on thin ice” because of his “erratic behaviour”.

Allies of Boris Johnson’s partner Carrie Symonds said the PM’s senior advisor is “on thin ice” after reports of a row between them over the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle.

One of her supporters said she felt forced into political fights at No10 because Mr Cummings had been “picking unnecessary fights, all over the place with no clear strategy”.

The ally said: “Dom’s erratic behaviour has made the PM’s job more difficult, so Carrie and others have had to step up more.

“Cummings is on thin ice with a lot of the people around the PM, and he might find out why people in politics spend so much time making friends.”
