Dog looks on as his grave is dug but then the vet changed the diagnosis

If you’re feeling a bit emotional, we’ve got a rollercoaster of a story that you probably shouldn’t read.

A man started digging his dog’s grave after being told that it would have to be put down.

The golden doodle even looked on, faithful as ever, as its final resting place was prepared.

TV writer Franklin Hardy explained: ‘The vet told my dad on the phone (??) that his dog had to be put down and he’d come to his house and do it.

‘My dad dug the dog’s grave AND LET THE DOG WATCH.’

The family was distraught at the thought of losing their pet. Speaking about the dog watching the grave digging on their farm in rural Virginia, Franklin’s dad said: ‘It didn’t seem to bother him. Was a little hard on me though’.

But then things took a turn for the better.

Franklin continued: ‘Then the vet came and checked the dog and said it was a false alarm. Oops! Dog’s fine! Everything about this is insane.’

He later added: ‘Why would the vet sentence the dog to death over the phone? No idea. Told my dad he doesn’t sound like a very good vet. Dad: “he’s a great vet!”.’

The dog is doing ‘famously’, according to Franklin.
