Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker admits being ‘terrified’ by series 12’s new monsters

DOCTOR Who star Jodie Whittaker has admitted there are new villains that left her “bricking it” during film.

Season 12 of the hit science-fiction drama will return on BBC One in the new year and fans can expect a “lot of insight into Bradley Walsh’s panic run”, she joked.

“Sometimes, the lighting’s the issue. There’s smoke, so sometimes you’re like, ‘I know, I’ve read it. We’ve rehearsed it. We’ve also shot seven different angles. But at this moment in time, I know it’s about to pop up, and it’s going to be awful’. And every time, it was terrifying,” said Jodie.

“Then with recurring monsters from previous seasons, we’ve got the Judoon, we’ve got Cybermen. And having worked with the Daleks in the last season, it just feels like, you know, this is exciting, to bring our stamp onto those monsters from previous seasons. Classic monsters.”

Speaking to Digital Spy, the cast added that viewers can also expect things to just “get bigger” than ever before.

“We have reoccurring monsters. We have new monsters. And actually, I think it’s got scarier,” said Mandip Gill.

But Jodie admitted there was a chance season 13 might have never happened as she had a near-death experience with a spider during filming in South Africa.

She explained on The Graham Norton Show: “Unbeknownst to me, the crew was filming a huge sac spider, and no one told me how terrifying and dangerous it was, and it crawled down my face and inside my costume.

“I absolutely bricked it and can’t repeat what I said. I found out after that I could have died! It was horrific.”
