Doctor Who is returning sooner than fans thought with a major tease to keep our diaries open for 23rd November.

Yup, just two weeks away gang! Time to get hyped up.

The much-loved sci-fi series has been missing from our screens since New Year’s Day this year, with warnings that it wouldn’t return until early 2020.

So…what’s this date for? Will it be a surprise special, a simple trailer tease, or even the start of a new series?

Metro.co.uk have contacted the BBC for comment and clarification.

Thirteen (Jodie Whittaker), will be back with pals Graham (Bradley Walsh), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Yaz (Mandip Gill) for more adventures soon and it’s clear the anticipation is getting to the actors.

On 31 October, the first new teaser poster of the Doctor stepping out of the TARDIS was dropped – prompting Whovians everywhere to start prep for the show’s eventual comeback.

It’s already been confirmed that alien race The Judoon will be coming back for a new mission for the team.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall has promised the show will come back with a bang in series 12.

He told fans in Doctor Who Magazine: ‘Knowing that we’d be filming in broad daylight with Judoon on the streets of Gloucester, we made a plan to release an official photo with the Doctor (oof, she looks cross, why would she be looking cross?) the night before.’

He went on to say veteran Doctor Who actor Paul Kasey, who played dozens of monsters in the long span of the show, including a Clockwork Droid, The Hoix, Cyberman and The Host, will make his debut alongside Jodie’s Doctor in the costume.

What does the future (or past) hold for the team? (Picture: BBC)

Of the monsters, Chris said: ‘We have a slightly updated Judoon head from Kate Walsh and her team of geniuses at Millennium FX: same brilliant design, just updated with a little more animatronic tech.’

‘Welcome back, Judoon,’ he concluded. ‘Shame you’re going to cause so much havoc for the Doctor.’

Plus there’s the small matter of the confirmation that the Daleks are back with a vengeance after last year’s New Year’s special – with a somewhat divisive revamped look.

Basically, plenty to keep the gang on their toes then!

Doctor Who returns soon on BBC One.
