Benedict Cumberbatch is backing an all female Marvel film and we’ve got shivers just thinking about it.
The Doctor Strange star, who joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2016, is the latest cast member to come out in support for the idea of a female-only superhero movie.
With the franchise’s recent resurgence and huge variety of films being released, Benedict believes it’s only a matter of time until the girls get their own movie.
‘Yeah, bring it,’ the 43-year-old actor told Buzzfeed, ‘Why not?’
He continued: ‘There’s space for that definitely. We’re seeing the rise of the female superhero and why not? It’d be great.’
We fully agree with you there Benedict!
Between Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Natalie Portman as the Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder, it’s a great time for women in Marvel.
And the female actors themselves are very keen to see an ‘A-Force’ film become a reality, with Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie in the franchise, revealing that her cast members are ‘eager’ to see the film be made.
‘There’s definitely a precedent for it in terms of the canon,’ she explained to Entertainment Tonight.
‘You know, all-female lineups exist in Marvel comics, so I certainly think it could happen in the MCU,’ she went on.
‘It’s something I know all the women that I talk to who are in the MCU are very eager for and fans seem to like the idea too.’
Playing the MCU’s first LGBTQ superhero, Tessa is particularly keen for a new film to see Valkyrie find her queen and honestly, there’s nothing we want to see more.
