DMX checks back into rehab and cancels shows 'as he puts family and sobriety first'

DMX has checked himself into rehab.

In an announcement on his official Instagram page, the embattled rapper revealed he was ‘putting family and sobriety first’.

The 48-year-old’s team shared the announcement alongside a picture of DMX. 

‘In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility,’ the statement explained. ‘He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support.’

Fans and fellow celebs flocked to the post to send messages of support.

‘Love you and always will Keep your head up [sic],’ head of Def Jam Records Russell Simmons wrote.   

‘Transparency creates Currency His childhood haunts him no matter what I love you DMX [sic],’ another user wrote. 

The news comes after DMX failed to show for a performance at Def Jam’s 35th anniversary party on Thursday.

The rapper, born Earl Simmons, is no stranger to rehab facilities and he has been open and candid about his struggle with addiction.

Back in 2011 he told TMZ that he had beat his addiction, saying: ‘I have 10 kids. I have to drive them in the right direction, so I let the cocaine go.’ 

But then in 2017, he canceled three shows so that he could again head to rehab.

On hold: It’s not known at this time how many concerts will be cancelled. The Where The Hood At hitmaker was scheduled to perform at Three 6 Mafia’s reunion concert in Memphis on Saturday as well as at the Rolling Loud Festival in New York on Sunday (DMX in Inglewood, California in October of 2016)

Later that year, while he was out on bond for crimes related to tax fraud, the X Gon Give it to Ya hitmaker continued to work on overcoming his addiction at a different rehab.

He then failed a drug test and was sentenced to a year in jail followed by three years supervised release. 

As a condition of his release, DMX was slated to attend substance abuse counseling for an unspecified amount of time.
