Dixie Crush singer Lindsey Lagestee has died aged 25 after being hit by a car.

The country music star was struck by a vehicle while on her way to a gig in Chicago, Illinois on Valentine’s Day.

She was rushed to hospital and died three days later from her injuries.

The cover band – which was co-founded by Lindsey in 2015 – confirmed the ‘senseless tragedy’ on their Facebook page.

Lindsey’s bandmate Jim Nonneman revealed she was struck by a car while crossing a street just minutes after arriving to play a show.

‘She had just parked a couple of blocks down for the club we were scheduled to play,’ he told Taste of Country

‘She exited her pickup truck and was making her way to the venue when she was struck by a car.’

A funeral service was held on Saturday for her family and friends.

Lindsey’s bandmates called her a ‘supernova’ in a touching tribute to her.

‘From the very beginning, everyone knew she was something special. Her Uncle Tony described her best as a supernova,’ the band wrote.

‘Above and beyond her beautiful voice, Lindsey just had a way of connecting with every audience leaving an indelible impression. Not only would she give an amazing performance, but after every show, Lindsey would come offstage, take time to meet anyone who wanted to say hi, take pictures, and build friendships.’

They added that ‘dozens of musicians and soundmen from Chicago to Nashville’ had been in touch to share their encounters with Lindsey.

‘We received notes, texts, emails, and posts from literally hundreds of friends and fans sharing stories and expressing their sympathy and condolences. The common thread was love,’ they wrote.

The group concluded: ‘Lindsey, you will forever be in our hearts!’

Aside from being a singer, Lindsey was a pharmacist, who graduated with a doctorate from Midwestern University, according to her obituary.
