Disruptor drinks company hires boss to drive UK sales growth

Edinburgh-based drinks-on-demand tech platform Drinkly has hired a business development manager to accelerate the growth of its UK retailer network.

The appointment of Shabaz Ali comes before the business embarks on a crowdfunding campaign next month in which it will seek to raise £250,000.

Ali is an experienced sales trainer who has worked for 14 years in telecoms developing and delivering training programmes for companies including BSkyB and Convergys EMEA. His career in sales began with Everest where he was promoted to team manager within six months.

Since joining the Drinkly team, Shabaz has recruited close to 40 drinks retail outlets across the UK onto the Drinkly.co.uk marketplace, improving Drinkly’s geographical reach and sales capability.

Founder John Robertson said: “Shabaz is the epitome of the natural-born salesman; a highly motivated and results-driven individual he was not daunted by the challenge we set him to onboard 30 retailers by the end of the year. In fact, he’s smashed it.

“Next month we will be launching our first public raise through Seedrs, aiming to secure £250,000 to further build our team to recruit more retailers; set out and implement an overarching marketing strategy and develop our technology to make sure we’re at the top of our game at all times.

“2020 will therefore mark a real turning point for Drinkly, in the evolution of our business model and strategy as we drive forward our ambition to become the number one UK drinks-on-demand delivery service.”
