Hurricane Dorian could force Mickey Mouse and co to retreat indoors as the opening of Disney World Florida is in jeopardy this weekend. The freak weather is set to hit America’s east coat on Monday, when the county celebrates Labor Day. The event marks a popular time for families to spend time together yet those hopping to venture to the amusement and theme park may see their hopes quashed. The House of Mouse, which is due to open new attraction Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge could be under threat by the storm which has seen all counties in the state placed in a state of emergency.
Recently, weather forecaster John Belski tweeted that the eye of the hurricane will be very near to Disney World.
This could prompt huge concern, especially with swirling winds and rain around the attraction.
The resort has not yet issued official comment, yet visitors would be advised to check the website for updated details.
Yesterday, it was still promoting its latest offering, with a tweet which read: “Live your adventure while searching for leaders of the Resistance at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Now open!”
One Trekkie then responded to moan: “That queue at 4 am this morning tho…”
Similar attraction park Universal Orlando Resort, meanwhile, is monitoring the hurricane situation.
It released a statement which read: “At this time our park operations and hours are continuing as normal.
“We have plans and procedures for serious weather that are time-proven and we will continue to make operating decisions as we learn more.”
The hurricane is expected to be the strongest to hit the East Coast in almost 30 years, beating the record set by Hurricane Andrew.
The FCO today updated its advice for Britons travelling to the area and stated: “Hurricane Dorian is tracking across the Tropical Atlantic and is expected to make landfall early on Monday 2 September along the US Southeast coast.
“The US National Hurricane Centre predicts Dorian reaching Category 3 Hurricane strength before weakening.
“High winds and rainfall from intense thunderstorms are anticipated.
“You should monitor the progress of approaching storms on the US National Hurricane Centre and follow instructions issued by the local authorities, including any evacuation orders.”
There has been no direct advice to Britons not to fly to America, with the storm set to hit on America’s busy Labor Day weekend on Monday.
US President Donald Trump has scrapped his trip to Poland to deal with the situation, which marks the fourth year in a row a hurricane has hit Florida.
However airlines in the US have waived rescheduling fees for passengers set to fly in Florida and Georgia, to help them avoid the adverse conditions.
These include American Airlines, Delta and JetBlue.
Ken Graham, director of the National Hurricane Centre warned: “People have got to be ready before Sunday.”
