Disney+ UK release: Is Disney+ coming to the UK? Release date confirmed

Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic fans can soon expect the arrival of Disney+. The streaming service will allow fans to stream every Disney movie, all the Marvel cartoons and even upcoming series and movies, such as Loki and The Mandalorian. But with the USA release date coming soon, is Disney+ coming to the UK?

Is Disney+ launching in the UK?

Luckily for UK fans of all things Disney, Disney+ will be available in the UK.

However, those living in the UK will have to wait a little while long than those across the pond.

At August’s D23 fan convention in Anaheim, California, Disney executives finally revealed when fans can expect to use the streaming service.

CEO Bob Iger explained how the streaming platform will be launching in the USA, Canada, the Netherlands and Australia on November 12, meaning fans will only have days to wait before they can access reams of incredible content.

This, in turn, frustrated many European fans, who were keen to get their fix of the Marvel and Star Wars action as well.

However, after a long wait, Disney finally announced the release date for the UK, which will be shared with France, Germany, Spain and Italy, as well as other Western European countries.

The release date for Disney+ in the UK is March 31, 2020, meaning there will be a little wait before the service can be used.

Before this was confirmed, all fans had to go on was a tweet from the official Star Wars UK Twitter account, revealing that The Mandalorian is “coming to you early 2020”.

This led to a huge amount of theories and speculation as to when the release date would be, with many suggesting January and February as the moment when the streaming service would arrive.

And, with the USA getting the service in November, mant were hoping the platform would arrive in the UK slightly sooner than the end of March.

However, with the date being revealed as March 31, 2020, anyone planning on buying their friends a late Christmas present of Disney+ may have to rethink.

What is Disney+?

Disney+ is a subscription-based streaming service, which will be the new home to exclusive content from the Disney catalogue.

With Disney having made some recent purchases, however, this will also mean content from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and National Geographic will also be hosted on the platform.

Disney+ will also be the home to upcoming Marvel TV series, including WandaVision and Loki, as well as The Mandalorian.

The platform may experience some fierce competition from Apple TV Plus, which has just launched in the UK for £4.99 monthly.

Disney has announced the platform will cost $6.99 a month for subscribers, which will include access to four simultaneous streams and 4K streaming for fans.

This is the price in the USA, and at the moment the UK price has not been confirmed, though it is not likely to be much higher than the US figure.

Disney+ will be available in the UK from March 31, 2020
