Former child star Cameron Boyce’s cause of death has been revealed as “sudden unexpected death in epilepsy”.
On July 6, the 20-year-old died while he was asleep in his home in Hollywood, California.
This week, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed that epilepsy was the cause of his sudden death.
A common medical condition, epilepsy affects the brain and is known to cause unexpected seizures.
The coroner’s statement read: “The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner determined the cause of death for actor Cameron Boyce was sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.
“On July 8, an autopsy was performed, and the cause and manner of death were deferred.”
“After additional testing, the cause of death was determined to be sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.”
The coroner added that Cameron’s tragic death was a “natural” one.
Growing up in front of the camera, the young actor grew to fame for his lead roles in the Disney shows Jessie and Descendants.
In his teens, he also got involved in activism, working to raise money for those without water or shelter, working under charities United Way and Thirst Project.
Cameron’s parents, Libby and Victor Boyce, continue to pay tribute to their beloved son over social media, posting about the sweet memories they shared with the talented young TV star.
In an interview with People, his parents said: “There are no words to describe how moved we are by the tremendous outpouring of love and support from our family, friends, and the world.
“Thank you, everyone, for encircling us with your love and respect of Cameron and concern for our family.”
Since he passed away, The Cameron Boyce Foundation was set up in his name, helping young people to make a positive change in the world through creativity.
