Disney Plus UK confirms plans to fix The Simpsons ratio aspect issues after jokes get cut

Disney Plus UK has announced that it has plans to fix viewing issues fans have faced when watching classic episodes of The Simpsons.

The streaming service was finally launched in the UK last month, and due to Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox last year, it is home to every single episode of The Simpsons, which is broadcast on Fox in the US.

Disney Plus had stretched older episodes of the popular animated series into widescreen 16:9 ratio, and that lead to many of the iconic jokes being completely left out of shot.

Many fans of the series on social media were left disappointed by this, with one writing on Twitter: ‘There’s bigger things to worry about at the moment, but Disney+ has The Simpsons in the wrong ratio and I just don’t think that’s a stress any of us need right now.’

‘With the UK release of Disney+, I was kinda hoping The Simpsons aspect ratio issue would be fixed,’ another added. ‘But nope, still waiting.

‘Seriously, it can’t be that hard to do.’

However, the service has since confirmed that they are working to make the classic episodes available in the original 4:3 ratio for those in the UK.

In a statement, the official Disney Plus UK Twitter account said: ‘We appreciate our fans’ patience and are working to make the first 19 Seasons (and part of 20) of #TheSimpsons available in 4:3 versions on #DisneyPlus.’

They added: ‘We expect to accomplish this by the end of May.’

The situation was also similar over in the US, where Disney Plus launched last November, although fans across the pond were later given the option to stream the episodes in their original aspect ratio.

In the meantime, there are plenty of new episodes of many other series that will be heading to Disney Plus this month – such as the first season of The Mandalorian and the seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
