Diego Simeone appeals to ref to book Sergio Ramos for insulting linesman's mother

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone called for Sergio Ramos to be booked after the Real Madrid captain allegedly insulted the linesman’s mother.

The flashpoint came during Saturday’s Madrid derby at the Wanda Metropolitano, which ended 0-0 as Atletico remained a point behind La Liga leaders Real.

Real skipper Ramos made a remark to a linesman which allegedy insulted his mother, according to Spanish outlet Marca .

The publication claims that led an incensed Simeone to call for a yellow card for Ramos – but it was to no avail for the Atletico boss, who ended up being warned himself by referee Jose Luis Gonzalez Gonzalez.

Simone was said to be furious that no action was taken – particularly after Atletico striker Diego Costa was sent off against Barcelona for similar conduct and was subsequently suspended for eight games.

The goalless draw meant Real maintained their unbeaten start to the new La Liga season and returned to the summit after having been temporarily usurped by new boys Granada prior to the evening kick-off.

Real came closest to breaking the deadlock 10 minutes from time when Karim Benzema forced a superb save out of Atletico keeper Jan Oblak.

Otherwise the defences were well on top in a game that also saw Atletico move into joint second place along with Granada.

Earlier, newly-promoted Granada extended their remarkable start to the season as a 28th-minute effort from Antonio Puertas gave them a 1-0 win over Leganes.

Barcelona eased the pressure on under-fire boss Ernesto Valverde as goals from Luis Suarez and Junior Firpo earned them a 2-0 win at Getafe and moved them to within two points of Real.

Valverde’s side had made their worst start to a season in 25 years and were without an away win in eight attempts.

Their win did not entirely prevent their early season headaches as Clement Lenglet was sent off late on for a second bookable offence.
