Die Hard: is it a Christmas movie, or not? It’s a debate that’s been raging on for, oh, three decades or so.

And while there seems to be no definitive answer, the conversation has taken a fresh turn with a new spoof trailer teasing Die Hard On Ice.

Yes. Seriously.

‘How do you make Die Hard even more Christmassy?’ asks a booming voiceover in the new clip from Now TV.

Apparently the answer is skates and some lovely synchronised choreography.

And the end result is utterly bizarre, slightly cringe and, yes, weirdly Christmassy.

The trailer isn’t for an actual Die Hard On Ice TV show, however (thank you, Santa!), but to draw attention to the fact Now TV’s apparently the only streaming service showing the Bruce Willis film this Christmas.

Kind of inspired marketing, no?

The trailer also shows some ice-cold re-imaginings of the film’s most famous scenes – plus protagonist John McClane’s iconic line ‘yippie ki-yay’.

Bruce played John in the original film, which was released in 1989 and follows a policeman who must save a group of hostages after a terrorist group takes over an office building.

Why is that Christmassy? Well, it’s not…but the action takes place over the Christmas period, and the people in the building are celebrating their Christmas party before the takeover.

The success of the movie spawned five sequels.

Last year, Bruce – whose other films include Death Becomes Her and The Sixth Sense – even weighed in on the debate around Die Hard’s Christmas movie status.

During his Comedy Central Roast he said: ‘Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. It’s a god damn Bruce Willis movie!’

But Bruce – can’t it be both?!
