Did you know that the Costa Brava is the ideal holiday destination for adrenaline junkies?

THE Costa Brava has been a top beach holiday destination for Brits for decades, but these days it is just as likely to appeal to adventure-seekers and adrenaline junkies.

Its 124-mile coastline means there are plenty of activities to entertain in the sea, coupled with rugged terrain and beautiful scenery just back from the shore to attract hikers, cyclists, golfers and yogis, as the area sits at the foot of the Pyrenees of Girona.

Thanks to the area’s long-held popularity as a beach holiday, there are an array of businesses in nearly every coastal town catering for watersports for all ages.

And if you book your holiday to the Costa Brava with Jet2holidays you can enjoy low deposits, free child places (ts & cs apply), transfers, 22kg baggage and more.

In Lloret De Mar, tourists can try their hand at everything from water skiing and jet skiing to parasailing as the more reluctant family members watch from the sun lounger.

For those looking to master a skill, the Gulf of Roses has a worldwide reputation for great windsurfing conditions that are perfect for everyone from beginners to experts.

Even though millions of holidaymakers flock here each year, vast swathes of the coast remain unspoilt and the water is crystal clear, making it perfect for both snorkeling and scuba diving.

Great snorkeling can be found in many of the quieter coves around places like Platja de Castell, while divers should book on a boat trip and head to the protected Medes Islands just off the coast of L’Estartit.

The marine reserve is one of the best places for diving in the western Mediterranean, featuring everything from barracudas and groupers to eagle rays.

If you prefer being above water, there are also plenty of spots along the coast that rent sea kayaks, or will arrange fishing or sailing excursions for the day.

Back on dry land, there are enough family activities to occupy restless kids for a full fortnight.

A good free one is a hike along the Cami de Ronda, a 27-mile-long coastal path running between St Feliu De Guixols and Begur that is great for discovering some of the best deserted beaches on the Costa Brava.

Alternatively, try some Nordic Walking  – normal walking but with ski-type poles –  on one of seven routes in forests around Lloret De Mar, a town which takes the sport so seriously that it hosts the Spanish Nordic walking championships.

Or get the adrenaline rushing with a go on a via ferrata – a difficult to climb route that features fixed ladders and cables – just south of Girona.

The route takes you along the cliffs above the sea near Saint Feliu de Guixols, with steel cables, Tibetan bridges or wooden planks for some of the trickier spots.

This is an intermediate level route so not everybody would be able to join in, but a similar offering but for all ages and fitness levels are the Parcs Aventura Costa Brava found in both Pals and Platja d’Aró.

Nine different circuits at each treetop adventure park are filled with suspension bridges, zip lines, vacuum jumps, climbing walls and swings.

There are several large parks dotted along the coast, including the Cap de Creus National Park, which are also great for hiking, cycling and horse riding.

If cycling is your thing  you’ve got kilometres and kilometres to enjoy on the Costa Brava and in the Girona Pyrenees. Follow the B roads that link the towns of the Girona area.

Alternatively, get on your mountain bike and pedal through the most spectacular mountain landscapes you can imagine. And if you really want to get your adrenaline pumping, try more extreme disciplines such as downhill biking.

If that seems like a bit too much effort, Segway tours can be organised from Besalú, La Vall d’en Bas, Santa Pau and Sant Joan les Fonts, for a much easier way to explore the rocky terrain.

Or relax with a game of golf, as the Costa Brava has nine courses – two of which are among the best courses in Europe, the  PGA Catalunya and Empordà Golf courses.

Click here to book with Jet2holidays and enjoy low deposits from just £60pp and free child places (terms and conditions apply).
