It’s an expanded version of their annual Girls Music Day
DICE are set to host their first ever Girls Music Week, following on from the annual Girls Music Day.
According to a press release, Girls Music Day was launched in 2014 as a way to inspire “young women to get into the music industry, as well as connecting them with people who could help them achieve their goals.”
Now in its fifth year, the programme will expand to a week-week-long event featuring panels, live broadcasts, masterclasses, and a gig.
London-based singer-songwriter Laurel will play at Hackney’s MOTH Club on April 10 for the first Girls Music Week live show, while Foundation FM, a new, female-led radio station, will be broadcasting live from DICE HQ on April 13. April 8 will see journalists Laura Snapes (The Guardian) and Natty Kasambala (gal-dem) and campaigners from Girls Against and Good Night Out take part in a panel called “Hitting reset: How to build a music industry where women thrive.”
Rebecca Lucy Taylor, formerly of Slow Club and now performing as Self Esteem, will host a songwriting masterclass, while NME editor Charlotte Gunn, 1Xtra’s Sian Anderson, and women from Red Light Management, Secretly Canadian, Ninja Tune, GRM Daily, Represent, and more will also be taking part in the event.
Anyone who is between the ages of 16 and 24 and identifies wholly or partially as a woman or non-binary person is able to attend Girls Music Week. Tickets are free via application here and via the DICE app.
DICE Editor Leonie Cooper said: “Getting strong, passionate women into the music industry has never felt more important. I’m so excited to have some amazing artists and journalists involved this year and to celebrate we’ve extended the one day event to a full week, including – for the first time ever – a couple of gigs with killer line ups packed with amazing women.”
