Dianne Buswell: Strictly star speaks on show future amid co-star’s exit 'Fingers crossed!'

Dianne Buswell, 29, has been a firm fixture on the BBC series Strictly Come Dancing, since she made her debut appearance alongside her celebrity dance partner Reverend Richard Coles in 2017. The red-haired star has since been confirmed to be back on the show, which is scheduled to air later this year, but the dancer has since spoken on her longevity on the ballroom floor. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Dianne said she has her “fingers crossed” when asked about being a part of Strictly in the future. She said: “I’d love to be in it for a long time. It’s such a great show. Fingers crossed.”

It comes after her co-star Pasha Kovalev, 39, announced his departure from the BBC dance show after ten years.

Speaking about his sudden exit, Dianne said: “I’m really sad about Pasha leaving, I loved him. He’s such a gentleman.

“On my first show he really included me, as all of them did.

“Such a great guy and I’m going to miss him to be honest. Anytime you need help he’s willing to help you.”

The professional dancer also spoke about the lack of “freedom” on the show as she admitted the series is focused around the celebrity and not the pros.

Dianne is currently headlining her own tour Here Comes The girls along with co-star Amy Dowden, 27, and former BBC colleague Chloe Hewitt, 23.

She discussed the importance of touring because you can show audiences “who you are” which she admitted your less able to do on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Australian native spilled: “On Strictly we are not given that much freedom to talk that much.

“It’s mainly about your celebrity and that’s what the show is about. So I think this [touring] is nice for us to show who we are as people.”

She continued: “And to chat about ourselves, because the show is about our celebrity and we are there to teach them.

“That’s the job we do but off Strictly we can make it a bit more about ourselves I guess, which is nice. Tell your story. Get people to know you more as a person.”

Meanwhile, the Strictly judging panel recently lost a member after Darcey Bussell, 49, announced she was leaving the show in a Twitter post last week.

In a lengthy official statement, she admitted it had been “a complete privilege” to be a part of Strictly and admitted she was not leaving “because of any upset or disagreement”.

Darcey joined the show in 2012, replacing Alesha Dixon.

The Strictly judging panel currently includes Craig Revel Horwood, 54, Bruno Tonioli, 63 and Shirley Ballas, 58.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One later this year.
